Le pont de Carrollton avait déjà fait l'objet d'un précèdent article. Les travaux se continuent et je me suis fait un plaisir d'en suivre le cours...

    Après avoir posé les poutres, il a fallu mettre en place la chaussée, en bois évidemment ! Et nouveauté, cette fois elle est boulonnée au lieu d'être clouée. Je comprends car précédemment les planches avaient visiblement pris du jeu, d'où des passages certes folkloriques mais bruyants...

     Les boulons sont prêts....

...suivie d'une glissière de sécurité.

Autre nouveauté ! Cette fois les piétons sont à l'honneur : on leur installe une passerelle !

Au milieu ils auront tout loisir d'admirer le passage des trains sur la plate forme...

Enfin, la réouverture à la circulation a lieu après 2 mois de travaux :

PS : Monsieur le Maire, pourriez-vous faire un effort pour nous épargner la vue de ces horribles fils électriques ?

En complément, j'ai été reçu par Monsieur Timothy Grizzard, Assistant City Manager, en charge du projet et qui a répondu aimablement à mes questions :

- Who pay for this expense : the city ? the county ? the state ? What percentage for each ?

The city paid the entire cost.

- What is the amount for all ?

$200,000

- How long the bridge will have not been opened to the traffic ?

It opened today, November 10, 2010.  It had been closed since mid-September 2010.

- What are the concerned enterprises ?

I am not exactly sure what this question means.  The closing of the  bridge affected automobile traffic between downtown Carrollton and the Hospital.  Also, many people use the bridge when a train has the roadway blocked on either Bradley Street or Dixie Street.

- I appreciated the new walkway ; Is it a policy of the town to encourage people to walk ? Are they other projects for this ?

We have a plan to build a walkway around the entire city.  The first mile will be constructed from Hayes Mill Road to the City School complex along Buffalo Creek.  The next phase will continue from the City School complex to the Target shopping center on South Park Street (US 27).

- I am very attached to the visual effect : there is an electric pole staying on one side.  I think it's no longer in its place now with the enlargement...

The pole has a corresponding pole on the other side of the roadway which was used to hang a device that restricts the size of vehicles that can use the bridge.  The other poles have been replaced and the restriction devices have been installed.  This will limit the loads that the bridge will have to bear.
